Driving directions
From Kaikoura and Blenheim
Take Highway 1 south from Kaikoura, and approximately 3 kilometres past Kaikoura township on the right hand side is a golf course. Just past the golf course turn right onto Highway 70 towards Mt Lyford, Waiau and Hanmer Springs. From here to The Gates Country Lodge is approximately 1 hour's travel.
Eight kilometres past Mt Lyford Lodge (very large log construction building) and the Mt Lyford turn-off you will come to a valley with very sharp corners leading down into it, and at the bottom of the valley is a one-way bridge over the Wandle stream. The Gates Road is about 100 metres past this bridge on the left hand side. Opposite The Gates Road is a blue Lodge accommodation sign.
The Gates Country Lodge is half a kilometre along an unsealed road (The Gates Road) on the left hand side.
Travelling time from Kaikoura is approximately one hour and ten minutes.
